Exactly. A valuable signal to self. “Pay attention! This is serious.” As the late notorious British MP observed: “Always make a speech on a full bladder.”

Hahaha, which has the added benefit of keeping things short! I doubt Fidel Castro had the same philosophy. Interestingly, Alex Honnold, the star of "Free Solo", is reputed to have been studied and found not to have much of whatever it is makes us afraid when we should be.

Yup. Butterflies are for a reason. To tell you it’s serious and you need to focus. You need to know how to cope with them. Some do. That btw is one sign of a good crisis manager in business—or indeed life

Yes, and they can be felt before making an important speech or presentation.

Sometimes the "butterflies in the stomach" are so strong that they can paralyze you. How many great athletes have we been lost for not being able to overcome their nerves, for not being able to overcome the pressure to which they submit or are subjected, or for not knowing how to decide which sport they like the most? (Nice to know Saya decided to run again!).

There are some stories about artists (singers, actors and actresses) who weren't able to overcome their stress on the stage, or the pressure in their career, and left it. Even there was a king of Navarre, Garcia Sanchez II, who earned the nickname "the trembling one" for the strong tremors he suffered before going into battle, although once he started fighting, he was quite brave.

Yes, for sure in music and entertainment, drugs and alcohol have traditionally played a huge role in "helping" performers overcome anxiety. And so many have died as a result.

Well, I was not thinking about drugs and alcohol (only about those who decided to leave their careers), but of course I can't deny there were some cases of addictions and deaths in that music and entertainment sectors (and of course the most renowned ones!), but I wonder if all of them were addicted due to anxiety only...

Well, of course not; there are many who begin to travel that road because of the lifestyle and various enablers within that world, but I think that fear is likely to be a big reason many performers get started in regular drinking/drug use.

Love it and what a great insight into the mind of an athlete. Yes, that's you - still.
